Bianca: SoCal Superbloom Graduation Portraits
Graduation Portraits in the Flower Fields
The spring season is an eventful time in Southern California. Daylights savings makes its return, seniors prepare to graduate, and most importantly, flowers begin to bloom all across the state. In the peak of their bloom, for just a few weeks every spring, you can fields of wildflowers across SoCal - Bianca’s grad portraits in the flower fields was just perfect!
The Spring Superbloom
Peak bloom for wildflowers is usually in March and April, depending on how much rain we got in Southern California during the winter months. There are some great locations to take photos with wildflowers in Southern California - Point Dume, Antelope Valley, and Lake Elsinore come to mind - but my favorite location for wildflower sessions is Chino Hills State Park because it is located very close to Los Angeles!
Chino Hills State Park
Chino Hills State Park is one of the best locations for graduation portraits with flowers. Its location is conveniently close to the city, and in the spring, its fields are filled with wildflowers as far as the eye can see.
We planned Bianca’s session date during they peak of the superbloom, and the wildflowers did not disappoint!
The Session
Everything was carefully planned - her green Cal Poly Pomona graduation sash perfectly matched the green fields of golden yellow wildflowers. Bianca chose two classic grad portrait outfits: a short white dress to match the playful nature of frolicking through flower fields, and a long flowing number for an elegant feeling once the sun went down.
And lastly, the finishing touch was an emerald green Miata!
2021: The Year of the Mazda Miata
What symbolizes California’s year-round warm weather better than driving a convertible with the top down?
In the past few years, the Mazda Miata - a two seater soft-top convertible with a classic design - has made a comeback to become one of the trendiest cars to own. Its cute & eye-catching design, affordability, and fun driving experience have made the Miata a popular car choice for a college student looking to stand out. Southern California has warm weather in every month of the year, which definitely contributed in making Miatas so popular in California!
We wrapped up Bianca’s grad session with a few sunset portraits. Wildflowers, convertible with the top down, and a beautiful sunset - truly a perfect summary of graduating from school in Southern California!
This is a quintessential example of a Southern California college grad taking graduation photos during the superbloom. Be sure to sure to check out other recent graduates’ photo sessions and my full graduation portraits gallery for more samples of my work.
