UCLA Wind Ensemble Invitational 2018

Here's something a little different from what I usually write about. A month ago, I covered a wind ensemble performance professionally for the first time. It was the UCLA Wind Ensemble Invitational, hosted by my past mentor Dr. Travis Cross - 18 accomplished high school wind ensembles invited to perform and receive coaching from famous college music professors from around the country at UCLA. I'm no stranger to covering these types of performances as I've been a member of the classical music world for many years, but this was my first time getting hired to do it.

It was a blast! I've always been a participant in these events and it was different to be part of the event staff. There were 18 high schools at UCLA at this event, and it reminded me of when I was that age. Getting to perform in amazing venues, receiving coaching by incredibly accomplished music educators, and meeting other passionate musicians - all of these opportunities life changing experiences for a high school musician. And I'm honored to have been a part of it once again.
